GAVEL (Growing a Village of Extraordinary Leaders)
Looking to connect with other women lawyers and judges in the area? Not much time on your hands?
You are invited to take part in a great mentoring and networking program created by the National Bar Association Women Lawyers Division (Philadelphia Chapter): The GAVEL (Growing a Village of Extraordinary Leaders) Program. This will be the second year that the NBA/WLD has conducted this program.
The program is simple and the time commitment is minimal. Basically, two participants are matched up--one has a GAVEL, one does not. The participants take one afternoon or just a few moments to meet with each other, talk about the topic(s) of their choice and the GAVEL Holder passes it on to the GAVEL Recipient. The GAVEL Recipient then becomes the GAVEL Holder and repeats the process with a new GAVEL Recipient.
Seasoned attorneys and judges: Take a few moments to sow into someone else's life. You can continue the relationship after your meeting, or not, if you choose.
New and up-and-coming attorneys: Connect with someone who may change your life forever (or maybe you will change hers). Then pass the GAVEL on to someone else!
After each meeting, the GAVEL holder will send a short e-mail about her partner and her experience with the GAVEL program to the GAVEL Program Coordinator. After you have signed up for the program and matched with a partner, more specific details about the program will be e-mailed to each team.
Please reply as soon as possible to vicepresident@nbawldphila.org to let us know that you would like to take part.
Participants in the past have raved about the program and you will too!
We are looking to kick-off the program before February 18th.

Vision 2020: An American Conversation about Women and Leadership
March 1 Deadline for Nominees
On Oct. 21–22, 2010, a congress of national delegates, representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia, will meet at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia for "Vision 2020: An American Conversation about Women and Leadership." Vision 2020 is a national project to celebrate the 2020 Centennial of the Suffrage Amendment. It will focus on advancing gender equality through dialogue about women and leadership. To prepare for this leadership event, Vision 2020 is conducting a nationwide search for women to be part of the delegation that will contribute to the "conversation." There is a three year commitment. For more details on the National Delegates, how to nominate a delegate and to access the online application form, http://www.drexel.edu/vision2020/community/vision/delegates/nominations/ Nominations must be received by March 1, 2010. WLD hopes to have one of our members represented in this national project.
