CONGRATULATIONS MAGDELINE COLEMAN!
Magdeline D. Coleman of Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney has been tentatively selected by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit to fill the vacant bankruptcy judgeship in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania seated in Philadelphia. Ms. Coleman will be the first African American woman to serve in this prestigious position.
The U.S. Court of Appeals is currently soliciting comments concerning Ms. Coleman's qualifications for the position prior to a definitive appointment. Such comments will be accepted until Friday, December 4 and should be addressed to: Circuit Executive, 22409 U.S. Courthouse, 601 Market St., Philadelphia, PA 19106-1721.

Roxanne Covington of Zarwin Baum was elected to the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on November 3, 2009. Ms. Covington served as Director of Fundraising during the 2008-2009 term.

October 29, 2009 – WLD President-Elect Shawane Lee will be participating in a panel discussion at the Fourth Annual Pennsylvania Bar Association Minority Bar Committee Diversity Summit at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
November 3, 2009 – WLD Corresponding Secretary Shereen Arthur will be attending the Philadelphia Diversity Law Group’s program “Let’s Not Wait for the World to Change: What Women of Color Can do to Combat Barriers to Advancement” to be held at Ballard Spahr (1735 Market Street) from 4 pm to 6 pm. November 9, 2009 – WLD Treasurer Autherine Smith will be participating in a panel discussion about diversity in the Business Law Section sponsored by the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Business Law Section at Philadelphia Bar Association’s 10th Floor Board Room at 12 noon.
